TravelSmart

Workshop Development and Complementary Teacher Resources

Created the TravelSmart for Elementary Schools workshop linked to the grade 6 curriculum involving an interactive presentation, the use of iPads to try out trip planning tools, and the visit of a TransLink bus to teach about transit security and etiquette. Developed complementary lesson plans for teachers to use before and after the workshop, including hands-on activities and an inquiry-based learning project.

TravelSmart

Workshop Adaptation

Adapted the above workshop to target grade 8 and 9 students with a focus on making smart travel choices. Strategies included a fully-digitized Travel Safety Jeopardy game, developing real-life scenarios for trip planning, and countering excuses typically used by teenagers and parents for not making smart travel choices.

Youth Forum Coordination (Vancouver)

Coordinated the 2012 Vancouver Local Forum which brought together over 150 francophone, French immersion, and core French students together to celebrate the advantages of being bilingual. Organized engaging workshops led by local French-Speaking mentors across a variety of disciplines, gave the opportunity for a dozen organizations to showcase their study and internship opportunities, and successfully applied for grants to support the Forum.

Created a joint project between the French School Board, the Francophone Association for Learning, and Boîte à Science (Québec) designed to provide BC French and French Immersion Science teachers with tools and training to teach the grades 8-10 Physical Science component of the B.C. Curriculum. Project included writing funding proposals, conducting needs assessments, goal-setting, coordinating, and evaluating.
